Book One told of Daniel's early life and the beginning of his career in King Nebuchadnezzar's court in Babylon. Despite his enemies' ongoing attempts to undermine the king's confidence in him, Daniel becomes indispensable to Nebuchadnezzar.
In this sequel, Daniel continues to demonstrate his loyalty to the king, limited only by his greater
loyalty to the God of heaven. When God warns Nebuchadnezzar in a dream of the imminent punishment for his rampant pride, it is Daniel who tries to convince the king to change his ways. Yet when the king slips back into his old ways and is punished with temporary madness, it is also Daniel who holds the kingdom together until the 7 years of madness have passed. Nebuchadnezzar remains an enigma to the end, but learns to freely acknowledge God's power over his
kingdom.
After Nebuchadnezzar's death, his dynasty staggers on, but the grandeur and direction of the empire has gone.
When the combined forces of the Medes and Persians crush the Chaldean kingdom, Daniel's integrity enables him – amazingly – to take a position of authority within the new empire. Subsequently, Daniel's scheming enemies trick
the king into making a foolish law forbidding prayer to God, then spy on him in the certainty that he will disobey. Triumphantly, they present their evidence to the king and demand that he administer the death penalty.
Cornered by his own law, the king throws Daniel into the lions' den and endures a sleepless night. Will God save Daniel?
Book Two recounts the amazing story of Daniel, a man of integrity who outlived the empire that took him captive and lived to hear the command for his people to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple.
This is the second of a pair of books about Daniel, a man held in high regard by God.
