Hi , Welcome to another Bible Tales Newsletter in which we present some different timelines and family trees, include a request and provide some more pictorial content.
More than four years ago, on 8th
November 2018, we sent out a newsletter a month before the release of the book "Joseph, Rachel's son". At the time, this was the first timeline we had published and the post " Joseph's timeline and family tree" has become very popular on the Bible Tales website. In this newsletter, we revisit the timeline and family tree. One month later, in December 2018, Terror on Every Side! Volume 5 – No Remedy began as an eBook serial. That book was later published and now another final volume has been written. Volume 6 – That Broken Reed is to be released next week. For special pre-order deals, look underneath the article. In the height of the pandemic in 2020, a reader asked me if
he could translate the timeline into Spanish. I said yes (of course!) and he kindly sent me his translation and has since given me permission to include it on the website. If you visit the post " Joseph's timeline and family tree" you will see that it now has some language tabs at the top of the timeline and the Spanish translation can be read.
It is also included below: Long time readers of the newsletter will also know that we visit India quite often, and the timeline and family tree have also been translated into Bengali (Bangla) – the
language of the Indian State of West Bengal and the national language of Bangladesh. This is also available on the website and shown below: These resources have been very popular in English – I presume that's because they help people to visualise the life and times of the people we read of in the Bible. You
may not know that while English has many such resources available, most other languages have very few. With your help, I would like to improve this situation for other languages. If you can translate effectively from English into any other language or know someone who can, I would like to hear from you. What we need are people who are able and willing to translate (without payment)
the timeline and family tree into a language which we don't already have. I would be very happy to include new translations on the website and make sure that they can be found through search engines. Please put your thinking-caps on and see if you can help! In technical terms, I would need a text file with the English statements or names and the translated text, provided in a
unicode font. Some notes about what is required and what we can provide are included in the post within a "Translators" tab above the timeline. If anyone needs the same information for the family tree, I can easily create similar resources. Below is a new version of the timeline of Joseph's
life. The changes are only cosmetic, but they do improve its appearance. The PowerPoint slide of the timeline includes some notes that have also been translated in the Spanish version. They help to set the basis for the timeline and are included below (in English!): The synchronisation of ages between Jacob and Joseph is found through computation, based on the following facts. - We know Jacob's age when he went to Egypt because in Genesis 47:9 he tells Pharaoh that he was 130 years old.
- Joseph's age at that time is computed from:
- Genesis
41:46 says that Joseph was 30 years old when he entered Pharaoh's service. As soon as he did so, the time of plenty predicted by Pharaoh's dreams began.
- Genesis 41:47 and 53 tell us that 7 years of plenty came in Egypt, followed by famine.
- Genesis 45:6 and 11 tell us that when Joseph sent his brothers back to Canaan to bring Jacob to Egypt, there had been two years of famine.
Thus we can say that Joseph was 39 years old when Jacob went to Egypt. Interestingly, this synchronisation also allows us to work out that Jacob was 91 years old when Joseph was born. This family tree concentrates on Joseph and his family. As a result, Abraham's brothers and Lot are
excluded and Keturah's children are not named with the exception of Midian whose descendants are mentioned in the sale of Joseph into slavery. It is now also available on the website in Bengali and is shown below. If you can't read Bengali, it won't mean much to you, but here is the English version: If you can help with translating the family tree into some other laguage, I would appreciate that also. Please let me know if you can.

Terror on Every Side! The Life of Jeremiah was originally published in five volumes which ended with the survivors in Judah planning to flee the country following the assassination of Gedaliah, Nebuchadnezzar’s appointed governor. Until that point, the story is based on the many details of the time recorded in the books of Kings, Chronicles, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel and
other prophets, as well as some historical information from outside the Bible. At that point, however, most of the Biblical sources fall silent. This sixth volume (more than 60% longer than earlier volumes) retells events in the life of Jeremiah from that time on, a time and place in history about which the Bible says very little – directly. However, there are still many hidden nuggets of information that help us to imagine what might have
happened to Jeremiah in Egypt as he came to the end of his life as Yahweh’s prophet to the nations.
