Many years ago, I remember reading "The Robe" by Lloyd C Douglas and being amazed by just how much more it meant to me than ordinary fiction did.  It inspired me to think more of the Bible as real-life events.  Certain aspects of the Bible became more real to me and I thought more about what the world around was like at that time.  I continued to read other books of Bible-based fiction by various different authors and found that all of them helped me to understand certain parts of the Bible more clearly.

I also learned to read the Bible to check on the real story, as Bible-based fiction can sometimes stray far from the Bible, just as other historical novels can stray from the settings of history.

Yes, reading Bible-based fiction made me more likely to read the Bible.

Not only that, but it made me notice more about what I read.  I read the Bible more carefully.
