Hi ,
After lots of work on producing a map of Jerusalem in the time of Josiah and Jeremiah, here is the latest result.
Also, many people are having to stay in their homes because of the coronavirus pandemic, so we decided to offer you something to listen to while you wait.
This newsletter has included many micro-tales over the last few years. When the first 22 were finished, they were compiled and "Fiction Favours the Facts" was published. After another 22 were completed, Book 2 was published, and now we are getting close to having another 22 finished.
To offer you something different, this time we are providing an audio serial of these stories. For those who have been receiving the audio serial of "Joseph, Rachel's son", this new serial will begin tomorrow morning just as the other finishes.
If you are interested, act now. The offer closes in a few hours.
Map(s) of Jerusalem about 600BC
I have finally finished enough details for a simple map of Jerusalem. It is still not complete to my satisfaction, but is all I have time for at the moment. The variation in available maps of ancient Jerusalem highlights the uncertainty in this endeavour, and it shouldn’t have been a surprise to me that it is difficult to map a city that has been built and destroyed so many times over the millennia.
Even many of the features of different maps that are consistent seem to have little basis in archaeology or Biblical description – which can be discouraging at times!
Here are two versions of the same basic map: one in portrait mode and the other in landscape mode.
I would be happy to hear any feedback about the map. I plan to keep working on it, so I may include an updated version in this newsletter at some time.
The above map includes the Mount of Olives as an anchor to make the scale clear, but this also reduces the amount of detail that can be shown for Jerusalem.
Omitting the Mount of Olives allows the area of Jerusalem to be shown at a larger scale. In general, this will be more useful if it is to be included on a printed page.

These maps have been built on a basic SVG map which is available in the public domain (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:C%2BB-Jerusalem-Map2-WallsAndContours.svg) and edited based on a large number of other inputs. The contours I replaced using NASA data through Maperative. In the SVG version, I have included OpenStreetMap layers which are © OpenStreetMap contributors, a note which must be included if those layers are ever displayed.
Other sources include Army Map Service 1961, Series K931, Sheet Jerusalem 2, Edition 2-AMS (txu-oclc-36445576-jerusalem-1961.jpg) which is also included in a layer in the SVG file. At some time, I may make the SVG file available on the website, but it is quite large and needs tidying up first!
With the layers included in the maps above, I can make them available in the public domain. If you would like to have them in different resolutions, feel free to ask, but it will probably have to wait until the micro-tale audio serial described below is completed at the end of May (God willing).
